Facilities for dogs
The Dog House
All our guests staying at Bunny Lodge Animal Holiday Resort will have individual accommodation exceeding the standards set by AgriQuality NZ, and provides more than a ‘home away from home’.
This accommodation includes a 1m x 750mm
hammock-style bed for sleeping and resting on. Guests are more than welcome to bring along their favourite blankie if it makes their stay more enjoyable (but NO bean bags please as they clog our drains if burst). Fresh water is available 24 hours-per-day.
For
our larger guests we have double units, which are also used for two or more dogs from the same family. These units are extremely popular.
We have both heated indoor and covered outdoor units available, the latter of which takes advantage of the afternoon sun. All accommodation provides protection
from the extremes of weather. We even have radio playing to our guests during the day (sorry – no Sky TV). The radio is turned off at night to ensure a peaceful night's sleep – very necessary to regain their energy after a huge day of activity. Our guests are exercised at least three
times per day (weather permitting). Most guests are exercised in 2's or 3's (with owner's permission), because we believe the dogs have a more satisfying experience by mixing and playing with others. Those guests who prefer their own company are entertained individually by our
staff in our paddocks.
Feeding
We have large and small breed, puppy and adult versions of Eukanuba; Nutrience; Royal Canin and Coprice available, and this is included in the price. Most of these are chicken and rice-based, to reduce allergies. We even provide chicken dog-roll as a 'desert'. We
usually provide a continental breakfast of Tux biscuits, and main meals in the afternoon. We are happy to change this routine if it works better for your dog. If your dog is on a different or special diet, we can accommodate this too. Talk about sumptuous living!!
Excercise and fun
Exercise and time outside is our 'house specialty'. Based in the country and in a rural setting, we have three ginormous paddocks for a decent gallop chasing balls or following wild rabbit smells, ten secure grassed yards just like the backyard at home, and of course the swimming-pool
paddock with its rockery, waterfall and variable-depth pool.
Dogs are exercised in these areas at least three times per day. Night-time is very quiet because everybody is so exhausted after so much stimulation! We often hear from owners of first-time guests that after getting back
home the dogs are extremely happy, settled and sleep lots for the first couple of days. Owners of regular guests report that their dogs often become excited once they realise they are coming back here – ear-muffs in the car once they take the turn-off to our resort become a good idea!
Visit
our guests page to see how much fun they have here. Just like many people go back to work for a rest after their holiday, the dogs usually go home to rest after having such a good time here.
Swimming pool
For the water babies amongst our guests we have a 15m x 10m pool for them to swim in. We are the only kennel facility in New Zealand with a swimming pool built exclusively for use by our canine guests.
The base is constructed of concrete for durability, a waterfall feature in the middle
of the pond keeps the water oxygenated and a very fine gravel sump acts as a natural filter to ensure the water stays as fresh as the water in our well.
Regardless of how long our guests are staying with us, we always ensure they have all the love, fun and exercise they need
to make their stay here an enjoyable one.
Dog Vaccinations
Before your dog is permitted into the resort we require demonstration that it is fully vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus AND Kennel Cough. If you are in any doubt whether your dog’s vaccinations are up-to-date, please
see your vet. If vaccinations have lapsed we CANNOT board your dog until ten days following vaccination. This ensures that the dog's immune system is up-to-speed.
Your vet will issue you with a vaccination card, recording what type of vaccination has been given and when a Booster is next due. Please note that while vaccines available are extremely effective in protecting pets, none provides a 100% guarantee in preventing disease. Usually the more recent the vaccination,
the better the protection.
Please remember: NO VACCINATION = NO BOARDING. We have no exceptions to this rule. This helps protect your dog and other dogs from the risk of spreading or catching harmful diseases.
Dogs need to be wormed and de-flead within three months before arrival. We recommend Frontline or Advantage flea treatments.
