Obedience

In addition to the highly successful agility training, we have been very busy training many dogs at their varying levels of competency in obedience. This usually occurs within one of our securely-fenced paddocks, with excellent off-street parking.

Gentle but firm

We are working closely with Jan Koortse (pronounced Yan), who has been 3-times National Agility Champion in South Africa, is a sought-after trainer and judge and was until recently the president of the largest agility club in the South Island. He continues to compete and win with his own dogs. Jan provides a wealth of experience in his quietly gentle but firm manner, to which the dogs respond enthusiastically.

Bookings essential!

The classes have been running at full capacity most Saturday afternoons, and other days or evenings during the week have also been busy. These classes have become so successful and popular because of the excellent results, that it has become essential to book in early!

Classes are most often in groups of up to 6 dogs, although many one-on-one sessions have also been held.

Classes usually begin at post-puppy school level. Level 1 includes competent and confident control of your dog, with both on-lead and off-lead work; sitting, turning, stopping and staying on-command. Even the most boisterous of dogs have shown remarkable progress after just the first lesson, and owners usually have (very relieved) big smiles when they end a lesson! The sessions often end up with a swim in the pool, as a treat for the dogs.

Level 2 classes become more demanding, providing much better control of the dogs from a distance, and the use of subtle voice and body-language commands.
