Overseas arrivals
If, like many thousands of others, you have decided
to emigrate to the wonderful country of New Zealand
and bring your pet with you, we can help with this too.
At Bunny Lodge Animal Holiday Resort
we don't distract ourselves with organising the transportation
of animals. But once they arrive in New Zealand, we
make sure they have the best time possible during what
could otherwise be a stressful time with separation
anxieties and jet-lag.
We regularly collect imported
dogs and cats from the airport and get them settled
into the relaxed New Zealand lifestyle until their owners
get here and organise suitable accommodation. Please
note that we are not a quarantine facility.
It is a huge step to uproot the whole 'kit and
kaboodle' all-the-way to li'l ol' Enzed. Including
a precious pet in the mix could be traumatic without Bunny Lodge to
provide a very warm welcome to both international and
domestic arrivals.
Entrusting your pet to somebody on
the other side of the world would be a worry if we didn't
have such a great reputation. Many of the animals we
have previously welcomed to New Zealand now return to
us regularly for their holidays!
Information we require
There are some details that need to be taken care of.
We will need the following information, in order to
apply for MAF and Customs clearance, at least 7 days
before arrival:
- Animal's name
- Animal's breed, and a declaration that it is not
one of the following banned breeds:
Dogo Argentino; American Pit-Bull Terrier; Brazilian
Fila or Japanese Tosa.
- Microchip number
- Animal's date and time of arrival in New Zealand
- Animal's flight number
- Air-waybill number
- Owner's name
- Owner's nationality
- Owner's passport number
- a scanned image of the photo-page of the owner's
passport,
- a scanned image of the visa page of the owner's
passport,
- Owner's expected date of arrival in New Zealand
- Name and address details of the pet exporting company
We take care of the rest!
We will apply for the import clearance for your dog,
cat or other pet on your behalf. We do this just prior
to arrival, so that the authorities here are expecting
the animal and can process the health checks and paperwork
with a minimum of fuss and bother.
It is not unusual for animals to be frolicking (or
doing that all-important piddle) in our paddocks within
half-an-hour of touching down at Christchurch airport!

here for details of animal import requirements.
Please note the following points
- While you will have already paid an horrendous amount
to get the animals here, there is a further small
fee (NZ$200~NZ$300) that the authorities charge
(airport handling, MAF inspection, Customs importation,
etc). We will pay this on your behalf and add it to
the boarding charge.
- In addition to the minimum regulatory health
checks and treatments required for importation, we
require that the animals are vaccinated as per our
normal requirements, and we need to see evidence of
this either on or before arrival in New Zealand. This
evidence is often faxed or a scanned image of the
certificate emailed to us.
- Most owners will be expecting to find suitable accommodation
very soon after arrival. In practice, it is not always
easy to find the perfect house in the perfect suburb
to rent or buy and it often takes longer than expected
or desired. We are quite used to this, so we are very
relaxed about the animals staying for longer than
originally booked. We encourage the owners to visit
as often as possible (within our reception hours)
while the animals stay with us, either taking the
dog(s) out for the day or else making use of one of
our many exercise areas to have cuddles and play-time.
We find that the animals enjoy this as part of their
routine and it does not cause any anxiety.
